Background: Neuromuscular fatigue is a risk factor for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to Comparison of the Effect of Fatigue Following a Period of Thera-Band Resistance Training and Hopping Training on Knee Kinematics in Men at Risk for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury.
Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 30 men aged 18 to 28 years who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into three groups of ten: resistance training, hopping exercises, and a control group. A Motion Analysis Corporation (MAC) Kestrel 8-camera motion analysis system, manufactured in the USA, was used to measure kinematics. The kinematic variables examined included knee valgus, flexion, and rotation at the moments of initial contact and peak flexion. The training groups participated in the exercise programs for 8 weeks. Pre-test and post-test data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance and the Tukey post-hoc test in SPSS software.
Results: The results of the statistical analysis indicated that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test values of resisted and Theraband exercises during fatigue, specifically in the improvement of the valgus angle at the moments of initial contact and peak flexion (p < 0.05). However, no significant differences were found in the angles of flexion and external rotation.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, hopping and Theraband exercises during fatigue can lead to improvements in the valgus angle during landing impact at the end of the jump and at the peak jump phase in individuals at risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Overall, performing both types of exercises can be effective in preventing ACL injuries.
