Background: In recent years, the widespread prevalence of various types of chronic diseases has become a vital and important issue in the health and treatment systems of different societies. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic neurological disease that debilitates the body's immune system, and migraine is known as the third most common medical disorder in the world and is one of the most common chronic pains. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of self-compassion training according to the health-promoting style in improving migraine headaches in women with multiple sclerosis.
Methods: This study used a descriptive-review method to review the literature and selected relevant articles from among the studies conducted on multiple sclerosis in reputable Persian and English scientific databases: PubMed, SID, Google Scholar, Civilica, Spriner link, Elsevier, Science Direct in the period from 2015 to 2025 using a random sampling method. Finally, 13 articles were used as the sample of the present study.
Results: In this research, 14 interventional and descriptive were reviewed. Studies have shown that patients with multiple sclerosis can manage their physical and emotional pain by using self-compassion. They can also contribute significantly to improving their health with health-promoting behaviors.
Conclusion: The results of the study supported the hypothesis that individuals' psychological resources, such as self-compassion, are associated with health promotion styles in patients with MS, and that helping people with MS adopt a self-centered approach through self-compassion and lifestyle modification leads to positive mental and physical outcomes. Adopting a comprehensive approach that includes self-compassion, health-promoting behaviors, and medical interventions may be the most effective way to manage migraine in women with MS.
