Abstract:   (100 Views)
Background: In addition to physical problems, the psychological problems of chronic headache patients should
also be considered. The present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of cognitive
therapy on pain self_efficacy and quality of life of men with chronic headache.
Materials and methods: The research methode is semi-experimental with a pre-test design and follow-up with
a control group. The statistical society of men suffering from chronic headache in Tabriz city was formed in 1401.
45 people were randomly divided into three groups (15 people into each group) using the purposeful sampling
method. The experimental groups received the treatment specific to their group in 6 and 8 sessions, respectively.
The control group did not receive treatment. The measurement tools were Bandura pain self-efficacy and SF
quality of life questionnaires. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance with repeated measures and post
hoc test of extraversion.
Results: In the pre-test, the mean and standard deviation of pain self-efficacy and quality of life scores were not
significantly different in the experimental and control groups (P>0/05). Both treatments increased men's pain
self-efficacy and quality of life in the post-test compared to the control group (P<0/001). In the follow-up phase,
the effect of these two treatments was permanent. The effect of these treatments on pain self-efficacy and
quality of life of men with chronic headache was the same in the post-test and follow-up stages (P>0/05).
Conclusion: It seems that cognitive therapy based on mindfulness and meaning therapy has probably been
effective by reducing the catastrophizing of headache, and as a result reducing the fear associated with pain in
reducing the intensity of headache and therefore increasing the resilience of men with chronic headache.
Therefore, it may be considered a useful preventive strategy.
