Background and Objective:
Patients with acute pain often face psychological challenges such as aggression, emotional instability, and reduced resilience, which can disrupt the quality of life and the treatment process. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of group schema therapy (ST) and group mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) on aggression, emotional instability, and resilience in patients with acute pain in Hamedan.
Methods:
The present study was an experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included patients aged 18 to 50 years with acute pain caused by traumatic injuries and acute diseases who referred to Hamadan teaching hospitals in 1404. 90 people were selected by purposive sampling and randomly divided into three groups of 30 people. The schema therapy group (10) had 90-minute sessions, the mindfulness-based cognitive therapy group (11) had 90-minute sessions, and the control group (no intervention). Data collection tools included the Barrett et al. aggression questionnaire, the Eysenck and Sybil emotional instability questionnaire, and the Connor and Davidson resilience questionnaire. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data, and the Sidak test was used to compare the groups in pairs using SPSS statistical software version 26.
Results:
The results showed that both group interventions had significant effects on reducing aggression and emotional instability and increasing resilience (p<05). However, group schema therapy showed a greater effect on the variables than mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
Conclusion:
Group schema therapy can be integrated into rehabilitation programs for patients with acute pain in Iranian medical centers as a more effective approach. It is recommended that longitudinal studies be conducted to examine the sustainability of the effects.
