Abstract: (60 Views)
Background and Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on rumination, body image perception, and chronic pain in men with prostate cancer.
Materials and Methods: The research method was a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test type with a control group. The statistical population of the study included men with prostate cancer referring to hospitals in Gonbad city in 2022-2023, of which 30 patients were selected purposefully and randomly assigned to 2 experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). The experimental group underwent 8 60-minute sessions of acceptance and commitment therapy, and the control group did not receive any intervention until the end of the study. The research tools included the Nalen Hoeksma and Maru (1991) rumination questionnaire, Fisher's body image (1979) and McGill's chronic pain (1997) questionnaire. The research data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance and SPSS version 24 software.
Results: The research findings showed that acceptance and commitment therapy is effective on rumination, body image perception and chronic pain in men with prostate cancer (P<0.05).
Conclusion: The research results indicate that acceptance and commitment therapy, by utilizing the required cognitive skills and thought control, leads to a reduction in rumination and chronic pain and an improvement in body image perception in men with prostate cancer.
